PDRA in Mars atmospheric research at the Open University (UK)

The Open University is recruiting for a PDRA position in Mars atmospheric research. The position is funded by the UK Space Agency, for a duration of three years.

Applications are invited from the community to join their group and undertake research using the latest data from the NOMAD instrument on the ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter mission.  The role holder will undertake an exciting combination of retrievals from instrument observations with global climate modelling studies to understand the behaviour of trace gases in the atmosphere of Mars.

Nuclear astrochemistry workshop

The first meeting on Nuclear astrochemistry is being held under the auspices of the European Centre for Theoretical Studies in Nuclear Physics and Related Areas (ECT*) in Trento (Italy) from February 26th to March 1st.

This brings meeting together disparate fields of nuclear physics with the rapidly emerging field of astrochemistry to explore the processes of star formation (and death) and planet formation and how they create the conditions that may allow life to evolve and be sustained. In the workshop, the first of its kind, we will bring together leading experts in these fields together with early career researchers who will develop this new field through observations (using JWST), theoretical models and simulations, and laboratory studies (including meteorites) to address the fundamental questions of how the elements and molecules of life are created in the universe and the consequences for the search for life beyond Earth and our solar system.

There’s funding available for both senior and Early Career Researchers (ECRs) to attend the meeting with meals and accommodation included at the ECT  Villa Tambosi in Trento Italy. All ECRs are invited to present a talk at the meeting and participate in discussions leading to future initiatives for interdisciplinary projects.

Research Associate position in Planetary Science at the Univesity of Manchester (UK)

A Research Associate position is available at The University of Manchester for a planetary scientist to undertake research into the metal segregation processes on planetesimals in the early Solar System. The position is in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, under the direction of Prof Rhian Jones and in collaboration with Drs. Margherita Polacci and Romain Tartèse.

The goal of the project is to understand the fundamental process of melting and core formation that took place in the first planetesimals that formed in the Solar System.

Planetary Astronomy PhD studentship at Queen’s University Belfast (Northern Ireland, UK)

There’s a PhD studentship available at the Queen’s University Belfast for the project “Exploring the Solar System’s Small Body Reservoirs with Rubin Observatory“.

The project will focus on developing analysis tools and utilities for LSST Solar System science in the year leading up to the start of the survey

AbGradE’s 10th Anniversary – International Astrobiology School in Florence, Italy 

As of this year, AbGradE is 10 years old!🥳

We have had many really cool events, and to celebrate all these years of activity we have decided to organise our biggest event yet: a 4-day astrobiology school!

Held in beautiful Florence (Italy) May 21-24, this school is organised in collaboration with the Arcetri Astrobiology Laboratory.

Research Associate position in Planetary Science at the Univesity of Manchester (UK)

A Research Associate position is available at The University of Manchester for a planetary scientist to undertake research into the formation and early evolution of the Solar System. The position is in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, under the direction of Prof Rhian Jones and in collaboration with Drs. Romain Tartèse and David Neave.

The goal of the project is to investigate the distribution of halogen elements in chondritic meteorites, to understand how volatile elements were distributed through early Solar System materials during the epoch of planet formation, ~4.6 billion years ago.

The appointment begins as early as April 1st 2024, and will be for 1 year.

Planetary Science PhD projects at The University of Manchester (UK)

There are several PhD projects available at the University of Manchester for a September 2024 start. These projects are in the fields of isotope geochemistry, cosmochemistry, and planetary science.

  • Investigating the formation of lunar agglutinates
  • Investigating the origin of water in primitive asteroids
  • Petrogenesis of lunar mare basalts from the nearside eastern limb of the moon

PostDoc Position in Exoplanet Atmosphere Cloud Modelling at the Space Research Institute IWF, Graz (Austria)

The Space Research Institute (IWF) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW), is offering a PostDoc Position in Exoplanet Atmosphere Cloud Modelling.

The successful candidate will join the IWF research group “Exoplanets: Weather & Climate (Complex Atmosphere Modelling)“ led by Prof. Christiane Helling as part of the OeAW’s efforts to expand the theme of exoplanet research at the IWF in Graz, Austria. The post holder will play a crucial role in extending our kinetic cloud formation model as part of our efforts in providing physical interpretations of observational data for space missions, for example, CHEOPS, JWST, PLATO, and ARIEL. The applicant must hold a PhD in the relevant fields of astrophysics.

The appointment begins as early as April 1st, 2024 and will be for 2+2 years.
