Opportunity with the Space Generation Advisory Council on two papers for GLEX 2025

An opportunity for early-career planetary scientists to collaborate with the Space Generation Advisory Council on two papers for the Global Space Exploration Conference (GLEX 2025) has come up! They are looking for passionate individuals who are capable of carrying out in-depth research, have a strong critical mind and are natural team players. Applicants who have a background or interest in planetary geology are especially desirable.

The projects are 1) Ocean Worlds 🌊 and 2) Asteroid Hopping ☄️. The role of the selected applicants is predominantly on the selection of landing sites for such missions. 2-3 team members are expected to be selected per project.

Applications are due by Sunday the 3rd of November at 23.59 GMT. Any questions get in touch with Ciaran Jenkins.

This is a great opportunity for ECR planetary scientists to connect with the global space community that you might not meet within academia, including engineers, lawyers and policymakers.

Help the Earth Science Women’s Network understand more about the mentorship needs of the community

This survey is being administered to identify gaps in mentorship opportunities, the corresponding needs and challenges of the Earth Science Women’s Network ESWN community, and to help future development of ESWN mentoring activities. These activities would include workshops, professional development opportunities, leadership opportunities, or development of a mentorship and/or mentoring education program.

They want to learn about your mentoring experiences, both formal and informal. Mentoring is defined as a relationship between someone less experienced in some area (the mentee) and someone more experienced in that area (the mentor) who shares their knowledge of the subject.

They are seeking responses from women in the earth and environmental science community who consider themselves mentors, mentees, or both.
Please take 10-15 minutes and complete the survey.

Deadline to complete the survey is Feb. 16, 2024 (extended from February 9 2024).
If you have any questions, please email Mimi Hughes (Co-Chair of Member Engagement, ESWN Associate Board of Directors)

European Astrobiology Institute presents “Life Beyond Us”

Original SF Stories and Science Essays from 44 leading science fiction authors and scientists on alien life here and beyond

There’s only one week left and it’s now over 86% funded!

What would life be like if it evolved in a cold ocean beneath an impenetrable shell of ice? Or on a world whose haze obscured any view of the universe beyond? Is there a common template for life, or can we expect to find preciously fragile silicon creatures drifting in seas of liquid nitrogen? How would finding alien life change our society?

Life Beyond Us introduces you to the strange new worlds beyond ours in 22 stories by award-winning authors of speculative fiction and 22 accompanying essays by scientists working on the origins of life, habitability and life detection. It’s going to be a fun ride!

Head over here to learn more about it on the Kickstarter website, and why not also check out what our president Ruth had to say in her EAI spotlight!
